Hemav raises 8 Million € to revolutionize global agriculture with AI

Spanish agrotech startup Hemav raises €8M in a funding round led by Future Food Fund, PureTerra Ventures, and Inclimo. The investment will boost its Layers platform, optimizing harvests and resources with AI and blockchain technology.

AI Innovation Drives Sustainable Agriculture

Spanish agrotech company Hemav has secured €8 million in funding in a round led by Future Food Fund, PureTerra Ventures, and Inclimo, aiming to accelerate its global growth and solidify its leadership in applying artificial intelligence (AI) to sustainable agriculture.

The investment will further develop Layers, Hemav's advanced SaaS platform, which is already helping farmers across 24 countries digitalize 9.2 million hectares of agricultural land. By harnessing massive data analysis, Layers delivers precise insights to reduce operational costs, optimize resource usage, and maximize crop yields.

Cutting-Edge Technology for Sustainable Agriculture

Layers stands out for its ability to process billions of data points from various sources, providing accurate forecasts that help users cut input costs by up to 30%. Additionally, Layers offers:

  • Water Efficiency: Through evapotranspiration and vegetation cover analysis, Layers optimizes water use—an increasingly scarce resource.
  • Traceability and Sustainability: Leveraging blockchain technology, Layers ensures zero-deforestation practices and compliance with the highest sustainability standards.

"We are transforming agriculture on a global scale with precise tools that optimize production and promote sustainable practices. This marks a crucial step toward a healthier, more efficient future," said Xavier Silva, CEO of Hemav.

Strong Backing from Key Investors

The funding round brought together investors deeply committed to innovation and sustainability:

  • Jeroen Kimmels, Partner at Future Food Fund, highlighted: "Hemav has created the most advanced predictive tool in the market, enabling agricultural businesses to become more efficient and sustainable through artificial intelligence."
  • Nic Pannekeet from PureTerra Ventures emphasized Hemav's role in water management: "This technology not only drives productivity but also tackles urgent global challenges like water scarcity."
  • Fernando Casado, General Partner at Inclimo, added: "We invest in disruptive solutions like Hemav that have the potential to transform agriculture and accelerate the fight against the climate crisis."

Recognition and a Promising Future

This milestone comes during a pivotal year for the company, which was recently named Best Startup in the agricultural sector at the DISRUPTORES INNOVATION AWARDS 2024. The award recognizes Hemav's significant impact and innovation in modern agriculture.

Looking ahead, Hemav remains committed to enhancing global food security and sustainability:

"As we move toward 2025, we will continue developing innovative solutions that improve agricultural productivity and foster responsible practices, ensuring a thriving planet for future generations," concluded Xavier Silva.
