Patio: Madrid’s New Startup Accelerator
Madrid partners with Patio to birth an expansive innovation and startup campus, poised to lead Spain and Latin America in redefining sustainable entrepreneurship. The dynamic collaboration promises a transformative space for startups, corporations, and investors to converge, fostering collaborative projects and societal impact.
Madrid, in collaboration with Patio, has ignited a groundbreaking initiative set to reshape the landscape of innovation and startups. The agreement signals the commencement of a visionary plan to launch the innovation and sustainable startup campus by late 2023. The first physical hub, spanning 36,500 square meters at Ruiz Picasso, 11, in Madrid's Renazca district, will host Patio, occupying an impressive 2,300 square meters.
Isabel Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid, emphasized the project's inclusive benefits, heralding it as a win-win for startups, corporations, investors, universities, and the administration. The campus, poised to be Spain and Latin America's largest entrepreneurship and sustainable innovation hub, will feature tailored programs to accelerate startup growth, innovation initiatives for companies, and a premium space for project development.
Patio, a non-profit association formed by visionary companies like BMW Group, Iberia, Inditex, L’Oréal, Mahou San Miguel, Merlin Properties, and Pascual, aims to establish Madrid as a cross-sectoral hub influencing innovation and sustainability across Spain, Portugal, and Ibero-America. Javier López Zafra, President of Patio Innovation & Startups Campus, envisions Patio as a modern and diverse space, a global reference for innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.
The project's core focus on innovation, entrepreneurship, and sustainability aligns with its commitment to fostering high-quality employment and wealth creation for societal benefit. With the support and financing from founding partners, Patio embarks on its developmental journey, planning to kickstart the first Open Innovation programs in November. Patio's ultimate ambition is clear: to emerge as the go-to campus for entrepreneurship, innovation, and sustainability in Spain, Portugal, and Ibero-America.
